Auditions

Your audition will be about 5 minutes long. You do NOT need to prepare an audition piece.  Bring the Personnel Form with you to your audition.

Range - we’ll do some vocal exercises to determine your low and high registers
Tonal Memory - I'll play a series of pitches at the piano, and then you will sing them back to me.
Sight-reading - I'll hand you a simple sight-reading example. The goal is to KEEP GOING, no matter what happens. Even if you don’t think you read music, simply follow the notes up when they go up, and down when they go down. Give it your best shot!
Vocal Quality - If I still need to hear more, I might ask you to sing “Happy Birthday” or “The Star-Spangled Banner ” a cappella.

Chamber Singers Callbacks

If you are selected for a callback audition, you will be given a piece of music to learn (I will tell you which part [SATB] to study) before returning for callbacks.

  1. Download a copy of the required piece and learn the vocal part you have been assigned.
  2. I hear you sing your part: a) individually b) in your section.  In the next round, I will hear you sing your part: c) in the mixed ensemble d) in a quartet (one singer on a part).
  3. Callbacks are heard a cappella (no accompaniment).
  4. I will post a list of singers who have been accepted into Chamber Singers.  The first rehearsal is announced after auditions.
